The Village of Arts and Humanities is a community-based arts, education, and neighborhood development organization located in inner city North Philadelphia. Through arts-based programs and activities, they work with residents to reclaim abandoned space and rebuild a sense of hope and possibility in their neighborhoods. Youth and adults work together to turn garbage-strewn vacant lots to into vibrant art parks. The Village has worked with tens of thousands of people to provide a wide variety of arts education programs, renovate abandoned properties, rebuild the environment, conduct experiential training, create jobs, and celebrate achievements together through festivals, theater, exhibitions, and publications.

The Village has cultivated staff members who are arts practitioners as well as administrators. Through participation in Artography, the organization has been able to nurture staff members’ artistic development as well as support their administrative functions. The Village was also able to realize the dream of sponsoring a trip for members of their Teen Leadership Corps to South Africa to visit the Bokamoso Life Centre, a sister arts-based youth organization in the township of Winterveldt.
